Thanks a Billion is a big thank-you to the movie lovers across the country who helped redbox reach one billion rentals. Redbox is celebrating this major movie milestone by giving away prizes with each DVD rental all September long. The best thing is: everyone wins! Anyone who enters a DVD code on redbox.com/thanks wins a free one-night movie rental and a chance at even bigger prizes. What's a Golden Code?
A Golden Code is one of 50 DVD codes placed on random redbox DVDs across America. These 50 codes, when activated at redbox.com/thanks, will win you a $500 gift card Golden Code Prize!
How do I find a Golden Code?
The locations of all the Golden Codes are slowly being revealed on the Thanks a Billion map with a yellow star. Keep in mind that a Golden Code could be in any redbox kiosk in that area. The map isn't showing real-time locations – it's for entertainment purposes only!
Where's the DVD code?
The DVD code is the 9 digits on the inside rim of any redbox rental disc. You can also get a DVD code for free by mail (see Official Rules for details).
What are movie clues?
They're clues that hint at a specific movie that holds a Golden Code. Follow redbox on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest clues, and click on any Golden Code icon on the map to see if there's a clue for a location by you.
About the Prizing
What are the prizes?
(1) A Free One-Night Movie Rental for Everyone!
Renting from redbox in September will win you a promo code good for one (1) free one-night rental. Limit one promo code per person for the duration of the Giveaway. The code expires 7 days after it's issued.
(2) 50 Golden Code Prizes!
Activating a Golden Code online wins you a $500 gift card that you can use toward a new flat-screen TV or a Blu-ray™ player.
(3) 1 Golden Grand Prize!
One lucky person will win their choice of: a trip for two to the People's Choice Awards™, or a Sony® Home Entertainment System that includes a 52" HDTV, surround sound, Blu-ray™ player and select Blu-ray™ titles.
If I win a Golden Code Prize or Grand Prize, how long should I wait for someone from redbox to contact me?
If you win a Golden Code Prize, you'll get an email within an hour. (Please remember to check your spam folder!) Golden Code Prize winners will also be contacted by redbox around one week after winning to verify that you've won. The Grand Prize winner will be notified by an email and a phone call on or around October 11, 2010.
How do I know if I've won?
After you've entered your DVD code on redbox.com/thanks, a new screen will automatically show you what you've won. Then you'll need to register at the Thanks a Billion site in order to redeem your prize.
When will the Grand Prize winner be announced?
Around October 18th, 2010.
How will I get my free movie night rental?
An email containing your promo code will be sent to your email address. Be sure to use this code within 7 days at your next trip to a redbox kiosk.
Can I use my free movie night promo code for online reservations?
Sorry, but your promo code can only be used for movies you choose at the redbox kiosk.
I entered two DVD codes, so why did I only get one free one-night movie rental?
The free one-night movie rental is limited to one per customer. But keep renting and entering DVD codes at redbox.com/thanks throughout the month of September — you could still find a Golden Code. Plus, each DVD code you submit is another entry for the Grand Prize!
How can I keep track of what I've won?
Click the "Login" button at redbox.com/thanks, log in using your username and password, and then click "My Prizes."
Is there a limit to the entries I can earn for the Grand Prize?

The DVD code on my rental isn't there, or I can't read it.
If you entered your email address at the redbox kiosk, you can find your barcode number on the receipt that was emailed to you. If you didn't enter your email address, call our Customer Care team at 866-REDBOX-3 anytime between 7am and midnight and we'll help you out.
I returned my disc without writing down the DVD code.
We're sorry — you need to have your DVD code to participate. Here's how to request a new one by mail:
Mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your full name, address (no P.O. Boxes), city, state, ZIP code, handwritten in blue or black ink, to: "Redbox Thanks a Billion Giveaway, c/o PIMS New York Inc., 245 W. 17th Street, 4th Floor, NY, NY 10011." You can also include the name of the movie you'd like to have your code randomly drawn from. VT residents don't need to include return postage. Only include 1 request per envelope, each of which must be mailed separately. Mail-in requests need to be postmarked no later then 9/30/10 and received no later than 10/4/10, and mailed codes need to be played by 10/10/10. See Official Rules for additional details.
